19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of that year.

The win also signifies he has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
