The star has given the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

The star was presented with the prize on 16 October as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the performances I played around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting possible closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in modernizing amenities and gear that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

He is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they earned the award in 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker stated that the band would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

In 2002, artist she split her award between a few organizations, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the youth organization that developed their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

And the 1994 recipients the group contributed their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the MVT shared it had rescued two small stages in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "stakes" in the venues.
